Fake Scam vs. Real Scam

Hey Jammers! There have been many trends going around Jamaa lately, so I'd thought I'd just post this one, as I just got on Animal Jam and saw it.

Fake Scam vs. Real Scam
I am sure that you know by now what a real scam is. If not, check out the "Scammer Watch" page.

But what is a fake scam?

A fake scam is basically a person who is using a scamming method, but in reality, they are not lying. For example, if a person says "I decline all trades" and they actually do decline all trades.

DON'T DO THIS!
Or even think about doing this.
Or fall for it.

For many reasons.

  1. It could be a scam. It is hard to tell...(see below)
Okay, that was only one reason. But there are many more reasons not to actually fake scam.

  1. People don't know if it's a scam, so they will report you, block you, and crowd around you chanting "scamscamscam"
  2. You get a whole lot of unwanted attention. When someone appears in a room, they just see everyone going "Scamscamscam" and then they ask "Who?" and then they get the answer and it snowballs.
  3. It's stupid. If your goal is to get rares (even if you are being honest), you can just play Sky High. Simple as that.
How to tell if it is a real scam:
(this can be used in the case of detecting either fake scamming OR real scamming)
*note: NOT foolproof, but should give you a good idea*
  • If the person promises an item that they do not prove that they have. Example: Person says "Best trade wins outfit + spike!" You ask what color the spiked collar is, and they ignore you, move to a different location, or leave.
  • You ask any question and they leave the room/server or move to a different spot. (examples: Person says "Send me best item win fox hat!" You say "Who is the winner so far?" Person leaves/moves.)
  • You pretend like you think it is a scam. You go up to the person and say things that make it seem like you think it's a scam. The person either denies it, or just leaves/moves.
  • If you start accusing the person of scamming (not in a rude way, like saying "Scam!", but more indirect, like saying "This doesn't sound like a good idea."), they get all touchy (ex: You: "This sounds like a scam." Person: "its not!!!!!!" then "no scam!!!!!!!").
These are not foolproof (as I said above), but should give you a good idea if the person is a scammer or not. The rest is up to you and your instincts to decide.

I hope this helped!

*I hope you understand that my lack of posting is due to homework and state testing*
