Hmm. You can't change the color, but it would look kind of weird with colored sand. Maybe if you put it over the crack in Deep Blue, you would get colored glass!
Speaking of themes, there have been several themes, or mini themes, in the past. The den item themes run longer than clothing item themes, generally. Here are some of the clothing themes:

Football theme (for the Super Bowl)
Enchanted Hollow theme (when that den came out)
Do you like these themes? There are, of course, the seasonal themes that come out, not to mention the discontinued themes, like for the 'Ol Barn den.
